Postgraduate Scholarships in Australia at James Cook University

There are numerous Postgraduate scholarship in stake for Australian and overseas students who are planning to study in James Cook University.  Most of the students are planning to do Marine Biology from James Cook University so they often apply for the Scholarship. As these scholarships are offered worldwide, so the amount of competition is severe. Monetary benefits are in the form of living allowance or as research money. However, very few scholarships offer both. If any one wishes to apply for any of these available scholarships he must make sure the degree of funding available and ensure they have adequate financial assistance for those aspects which are not covered by the scholarship. 

In some exceptional circumstances, brilliant overseas students may also be considered for the scholarship on the recommendation of the Head of School. Scholar students would be entitled to receive Australian Dollar 20427 per annum plus thesis and relocation allowance wherever applicable. The tenure would be 2 years for M.Sc and 3 years for PhD. Total number of scholarship awarded every year is 12, the closing date is 31 October for Australian residents or 31 August for overseas students. 

Overseas students willing to pursue postgraduate studies in James Cook University must contact nearest Australian Embassy as early as possible. Information on various scholarship program run by Australian university is easily assessable form these offices. One of an interesting scholarship award to Marine Biology students is the AusAID scholarship. AusAID (Australian Agency for international Development) Scholarship offers Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) to assist people from developing countries to study in Australia. 

There are two genre of scholarship available: Open/Equity or Public Sector. In Open/Equity ADS do not require the applicants to be nominated by the government or employer but has to meet the selection criteria, while public sector ADS requires government to nominate candidates. 

Scholarship also includes return airfare ticket to Australia, academic and other mandatory allowances, basic health insurance and living allowance, which is paid fortnightly.
